This blog post is long over due. It's been nearly 10 months since I ventured out to McConnell Springs to photograph one of my dearest friends. Amanda and I first met in college but it wasn't until a few years after those days that we really became friends. We bonded over a mutual love of hiking, nature, coffee, and coloring books.
When Amanda first approached me to take portraits, she was in the middle of an emotional break up and wanted to do something that would make her feel great. It might not be the first thing that you think of when you want to feel great, but a good portrait session can be powerful in that way.
(Also, as a side note, can this be a thing? Post Break-Up Empowerment Portrait Sessions? I think it's a really healthy and effective way to deal with emotions than the standard drinking/eating binge.)
Perhaps my favorite part of being a portrait photographer is giving people an experience that makes them feel beautiful. I can't speak for everyone, but I know that for myself, there aren't a lot of things that make me feel beautiful... but those few things that do are empowering, soul-cleansing, and so appreciated.
I'm so glad I was able to take this photos for one of my fiercest friends. We had a lot of fun traipsing through McConnell Springs and wandering around the Pepper Distillery.
