When Maria & Jon first asked me to photograph their wedding I was so excited. The Red River Gorge is probably my favorite place in Kentucky and I still hadn't photographed a wedding there. I'm so glad I finally did, it was such a fun day and couldn't have been a better location for this incredible couple.
As I drove up to the 10 bedroom cabin they had rented at Cliff View Resorts I was struck by the sheer size and elegance of the spot. I was greeted by some of Maria & Jon's family and instantly felt at ease. They had rented the cabin for several days and the atmosphere I walked into was one of a chill family and friends vacation that happened to include a wedding.
Jon surprised everyone when he broke out his ukulele to serenade Maria as she walked down the aisle. It was one of the sweetest wedding moments I've witnessed, and just as much a surprise as his proposal. Jon proposed to Maria when they were sitting in a park enjoying a picnic after a hectic day of pipe bursts and house problems. He hadn't been planning to, but it was the right moment with the right person.
Maria & Jon first met at a dive bar on Valentine's Day five years ago. For Jon, it was an immediate connection that he wanted to pursue, but Maria had plans to move out west for a job. As things tend to go, life had other things in store for her, and Maria's job was post-poned for 6 months and they started dating. As people say, the rest is history.
